Obtaining average scores and counting responses of filtered data

Hi there,

I am reaching out to you as I need some assistance in developing two formulas to analyse survey data. This survey has been provided to respondents of different groups on different occasions and I would like to analyse whether scores change over time and if there are differences within and between groups.

To get some grip on my data, I would like to know more about how many participants provided a response on a particular question and what the mean group score is, depending on applied filters. I’ve read something about including the subtotal function in my formula, but unfortunately I have not been able to process this properly, mostly due to changing ranges by adjustments in the filter and adopting the exclusion criteria in my formulas which should be taken into consideration for counting and calculating mean scores.

I was hoping if somebody could assist me with developing the correct formulas for my need. In the attachment a snippet of my Excel file with sample survey data is provided. If anything is unclear, let me know.

Spot on, this is what I was looking for! Two more questions though.
1. Is it possible to make the selection range dynamic? My database is likely to expand in the future and I would like to ensure that all new records are included automatically.
2. And if I want to add additional exclusion criteria, how do I adjust my formula? For example, in the provided file above I want to exclude values from column D which either return the value -99 or 0.
