Using wildcard in conditional formula not working

I am not sure if i am missing something. I am working a conditional format and cannot get it to work.

=G2="F**"

In G2 i can have many variable but the one i am trying to identify is "F" and 2 digits like "F01" then highlight accordingly. I though I could use WILDCARDS but cannot seem to get it to work. I am open to some ideas
