Accidentally saved auto close macro in my personal macro workbook. How can I get it to stay open and delete that macro?

  • In my infinite wisdom (big joke) I created an auto macro to run when I open excel to change the default search setting to columns instead of rows, and the last line of the code was to close the workbook. BUT, instead of creating it in a separate workbook, I accidentally put it in my personal macro workbook. Now whenever I open Excel it opens the personal macro workbook, runs the macro to set the search and then closes the personal macro workbook automatically. I now can't get to any of my macros to run them or edit them. I have tried various combinations of settings in the trust center but nothing helps me be able to get the workbook open AND be able to edit the macros/modules. Please can someone help me figure out how to get to the macro in the workbook to delete it completely so that I can continue using my personal macro workbook as normal. Thank you;(

  • If you set your trust center to Disable all macros, you should be able to open Excel, remove the auto_close macro, then close and save.
