Maintain Format when Concatenating

If you have formatting on a number cell to pad with leading zeros, is it possible to capture the formatting when concatenating that value into another cell?

We are losing the padding and only getting the value. So what is displayed as 001 gets concatenated as simply 1.

Any ideas?

you could also consider replicating your cell formatting with the text() function.

eg

="This number has been formatted"&text(a1,"000")

Nope, formatting destination cells does not work. Not for me, that is. I need to combine a % with text and that, too, becomes .1 (e.g.)

I'd like to see a hint on this, too, Marc

Just tried it,

text(<cell>, "000")

works....
