Identify Number Patterns

  • Re: Identify Number Patterns

It is weird, this is what is happening. When I copy and paste from this book all is fine. When I copy from another book and paste to this worksheet it ask for the 5 numbers. I am using the same exact layout with all my books.

OK, I pasted the values of the large_book sheet onto my sheet. As you will see on the attachment all is working. Note that I left out the first few rows that had ?s and #Value errors, the error message caused the macro to fail. You need to be sure that all data sets do not contain any cells with error messages.

Which cells (columns) do put the 4 digits to search for the up/down?

I am confused. This upload does not have the same data I uploaded. It only has maybe 100 rows and I uploaded over 10,000. When I copy and paste the rest of the book it sits there and spins loading the data and runs really really slow. I am not sure what errors you speak of as I do not have any errors on my original as it runs fine with my other Macros. I am only copying and pasting

The file you uploaded to Dropbox has just 95 rows of data and the first 4 contained the errors. Check the file in your dropbox folder, maybe the upload errored.
    I have attached it here.

For the Up/Down search you enter the pattern in columns AA, AB, AD and AE starting on row 6. The second attachment shows criteria entered there and ready to have the button clicked.

OKA, it just got weirder, I download this same file here "Large Book" and it has 681 rows of data??

You never seem to amaze me KJ. This is saving me so much time with my searching its unbelievable. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!. Everything is working fantastic. I was doing the wrong format for copy paste. Thank you for explaining that to me too and I am so blessed that you have the patience for all of us. Again!!!! THANK YOU!!!!

I have messed around with this for hours When I run the macro and copy the results and then paste them to a new worksheet it loses the borders around the cells after about 20 rows and doesn't let me place a border around the cells either. I noticed this morning that if I paste it in the first row first column its fine. If I paste it in say column 10 it loses the border??

  • Re: Identify Number Patterns

The borders are set by conditional formatting, If you copy paste the Counter search results then any row where column A is not empty will have borders applied to cells in columns A to O. Copy/pasting the Up/Down results would apply borders to cells in columns R to AF for all rows where column R is not empty.

Conditional formatting and variety of colours is fine for making pretty tables and for creating a good looking page for presentation of data. However when used with raw data that is being manipulated, especially with lots of copy/pasting between sheets (as you obviously do), conditional formatting and cell colouring is best avoided because it will cause nothing but headaches!

I completely understand. I will have to put my thinking cap on for another way to sort to get results
