Do You have several startupdirectories with same files
The first You should to is to check up the
XLStart-folder and the setting "At startup open all files in" (via Tools| Options | Tab General")

MSCREATE.DIR with nothing in it.
NO!!! leave well alone, do not click it or try to open it, how it is looks fine from here, please dont play with it, this file will not like it

My last coffee for this night made a "reboot" of my brain :cool:
In addition to my earlier replies:
How about deleting all temp-files in the temp-directory?
- Open the explorer.
- Search for a folder named Temp.
- Delete all *.tmp-files
- Reboot the computer
What will happend if You try to open the file via File | Open?
