merge cell invoice no auto increment frormulla is not working

    my old file i am using this formula in C6 columns "=MAX(C:C)+1, in my new sheet i am merge c or d column and i am using this formula "=MAX(C:D)+1 but this formula is not working sir please correct this formula sir thanking you sir
