Ideas to Make Spreadsheet Prettier/User Friendly

  • Hi,

I would like to make my spreadsheet easier to read and just more organized.

Any links/pics or spreadsheet examples would be appreciated.

My current format goes node by node format and then columns across to represent the data.

    something like this:

    Moderators

    # of posts

    Active users

    OZ

    Excel

    excel gen

    x, y , z

    1000

    5

    excel vba

    a, b , c

    500

    10

    excel formula

    c , y , x

    5000

    15

    Access

and so on, It is many nodes I have so it can be quite hard to read it all. Don't really want to pivot it as some of the column headers and data inside are quite complex.

    Thanks

This is very subjective - something that looks good to me might not look that good to you and absolutely revolting to whoever else looks at it.

Plus, there is no indication of the amount of data. Your small sample looks fine as posted and that makes it difficult (subjectively) to imagine a large dataset.

    Me?

I'd remove the sheet gridlines, bold the heading in the first row, do something with the headings in the first 2 columns (Bold, tastefully coloured [again subjective]) and fill the data block with a pastel background colour and faint grid lines. You might prefer something bright and in your face though (In which case I'll join the 3rd category above).

It could be a lot of work - but it also could be automated (even more work but has the advantage that the formatting can be applied to different areas as long as they follow the same basic structure, or the whole thing can be re-formatted with a simple change to the code)

You could also copy the data to Word which has a lot more formatting options.
