Custom Ribbon with Macros that does not lose macros after Save As or file move

  • Hello,

I have, with the wonderful help of several on this board, finished a vast majority of my summer project, but now I am stuck trying to implement a feature that I think would be nice for the end-user. I would like to create a custom ribbon with groups and buttons (Excel 2013). I know how to create it via the Home->Options menu, but any macros I set are absolute references. Therefore, when I save the file as "file (rev 20160704).xlsm", all the buttons open the "file (rev 20160703).xlsm" file. Is there a simple workaround for this?

I have seen references to R. DeBruin's site, but this file will eventually be used by many users across a large campus. Having to get into their systems to plant another file is impossible.

If you read Ron's site, you will see that you do not require any other files on the users' computers. You modify a part of the workbook to set up the ribbon you want - everything is contained within the workbook and it will fix your problem. :)

Theory is when you know something, but it doesn’t work. Practice is when something works, but you don’t know why. Programmers combine theory and practice: nothing works and they don’t know why

I guess reading that site late at night after hours of work was not a good idea. I will check again. Thank you so much!
