Hi
Is there a way to highlight a cell if the figure is negative?
=IF(A+B<0, ??? , A+B)
Any function I can use to Highlight a cell as I cannot use VBA

Re: If Data = Negative --> Highlight cell - Without using VBA
Hi,
Its not actually an 'If' per se. Suppose your numbers are in cells A1 and B1 and in C1 you have =A1+B1.
Select C1, click Format/Conditional Formatting. Use the dialog box to set "Cell Value is", "less than" and "0". then click Format button. Choose a colour from the 'patterns' tab (or whatever you want the 'highlight' to be) and click 'OK'. You can have multiple conditions, et cetera.
Now if C1 is less than zero the formatting will apply!
Cheers,

Re: If Data = Negative --> Highlight cell - Without using VBA
hi there
Yes u can conditionally format todays date....
Use the dialog box to set "Cell Value is", "equal to" and "=today()" and then format as suggested above

Re: If Data = Negative --> Highlight cell - Without using VBA
Oh we can use that Thanks
By the way, I tried Conditionally formatting If =A1=A3 then highlight it yellow
But all the cells are referenced to A1
I want it to be A1 = A3
B1 = B3
C1 = C3
etc etc
Re: If Data = Negative --> Highlight cell - Without using VBA
Hi
One trick that I am aware of is typing the cell reference manually (as against using the cursor) and then using "format painter"......that way the cells do not get locked using $$
perhaps there are more elegant ways to do the same

Thanks a lot anyway
Re: If Data = Negative --> Highlight cell - Without using VBA
Hi
Anyone know if I want to BOLD the WHOLE row A if D1 is negative - and it moves down the page
How do I do it with condtional formatting?
Re: If Data = Negative --> Highlight cell - Without using VBA
If you want to BOLD row 1 (A is a column) when D1 is negative, then use the Formula Is option rather than Cell Value Is in the first box in the conditional formatting screen. Then use the following formula:
=$D1<0
then use the format painer, or copy the format to all cells you want affected.
