Unexplained loss of use of "options" in Tools on Menu Bar. Shuts excel down with encountered problem and must shut down. Excel 97, XP.

Have You tried to restore the commandbar by the command:
View | Toolsbars | Customize | Tab Toolbars.
And select Worksheet Menu Bar and hit the button "Reset"?

So, you can see now....
I'm not good with VBA, and I'm not great with functions or anything.
But I'm fairly familiar with the troubleshooting the application itself and the issues.
