i'm not real good at this excel,so any help would be appreciated.
i need to know how to set up a column so that the current date and time show up in it automatically when you start to enter the data.this template will also utilise VLOOKUP,but i think i can handle that bit.i know i probably have to use TODAY() and NOW(),but for the life of me cant figure how to fix it to the whole column.

welcome to the board Mobbzee. Can you clarify, ie: you would like the current date to show in a1 if you enter data in b1, current date to show in a2 if you enter data in b2?
If this is correct then enter this in A1 and copy it down your A column:
=IF(ISBLANK(B1),"",NOW())
then click Format-Cells-Date to get the appropriate date format -
thats about it egad
its on a incident report,so when i enter the incident no. in a1 i need the time and date to enter automatically in b1 -
lol..thanks again paddy
gotta keep all my options covered(dual thread);;)

If you're going to dual post how about letting people know of the other post/s.
There is nothing worse than spending time trying to help someone only to find someone else has already given the answer elsewhere.
Remember people are trying to help ...don't abuse their generousity.

Ok. I understand why you did what you did.
Perhaps you didn't know posting etiquette (courtesy to let people know when you dual post).
Anyway you know now.

Hi mobbzee
Please understand where Robert is coming from.
RE: i wanted an answer quickly and im not to know that members would be at both forums
All Robert is saying is, many times when a user posts a question on 2, or more forums some kind person ends up spending time on a solution only to find (or never finds out) out the problem was solved hours ago on another forum.
Nobody can stop you "cross posting" but all is asked is you post a link with your question to the other forum.
Cross posting has been likened to, calling 6 different cab companies to get a cab, jumping in the first that shows and not caring less about the other 5 wasting their time.
Thanks for your understanding.

r_hind is not suggesting that members would be present at both Forums, what he is quite rightly saying is that members who are NOT reading both Forums need to know of dual posting to avoid them wasting their freely given time posting an unnecessary answer.
Basically, all we ask is a link to the other Forum in your post so that it can be tracked.
Please use some of your time to read this link
