Does anyone know of an add-in or piece of software that is available that lets you enter a date and an annotation info into a line graph and then automatically draws a text box with an arrow pointing to the corresponding date on the chart? The end result will be a line graph with lots of text boxes on and arrows coming from the text boxes to the right dates.............

Hi melsmiff
Try this page:
http://www.ozgrid.com/Services/ExcelChartTools.htm
In particular, the Chart Labeler.

for response. I have this add in already but it's not quite what I have in mind. The attached worksheet is what I want the final result to look like and I'm sure I've used something before that lets you create this using dialogue boxes to fill in all the information........... any clues?

Hi melsmiff,
Here is an example that uses datalabels.
By using worksheet formula it will automatically display any information as you enter it.The example contains 2 variations.
1. With a data series (as displayed)
2. Annotation onlyHope this helps.
Cheers

this is great! However, when I try to enter my data (I also have an extra data series) the call out boxes go below and I would like them above. Also, for any additional ones I add (rows 12-15) there seems to be an error in the yellow box and I cant figure out why. See attached..................

Hi melsmiff,
You need to update the data series with the your new information.
So the Custom Error bar ranges need to be adjusted. This is not automatically updated when you change the source data range.
You also need to use the data labelling addin to extend the linked cells
The amount of error bar raise and fall is controlled by the cell formulas. Because the formulas where based on data in the range 0 to 10 they need to be modifed for your data. eg:
Midpoint=5
Lowerposition=1
upper position=9
=IF(G2<>"",IF(B2>5,1,9),NA())Incease these by a factor of 10 should sort it.
Cheers

Actually, if you are using a Line graph instead of XY-scatter, you could add a secondary Category axis and then the data labels will be automatic.

I must be having an off day today! I cant seem to get the down lines to work properly? would you mind taking a quick look to see what I'm doing wrong?

Hi melsmiff,
I have made a few changes!
I have used some parameter values, in cells, so you should only need to adjust a single value for it to effect the whole chart.
There is now a set of anotation markers for both data series.
I have changed the alignment of the anotate labels so there are centered over their data points. This stops the leader lines from poking out of the bottom labels.
You can adjust the value to decide whether the anotation should go up or down. This can be different for each data series.
You can adjust the vertical position, both Low and High, for each set of anotation.
See what you think.
Cheers
