Word template

  • Hi,
I hope you can help me. I have a standard word document that I use where all I have to do is erase the dates and numbers in the document and replace them with the correct information. My question is as follows. Is there a way I can create a window ( sort of like in access where you can create a window with fields and once you do that it plugs the information you just put into a spreadsheet) where all I have to do is put in the info into fields and it will plug it into the word document?

If Not: is there a way that I can leave those spaces blank ( such as dates and numbers in the word doc) and tab through so that each time I hit the tab key it jumps to the next spot that I designate?

Thank you in advance for your help,

    Hi Zeff,
What you're asking is quite possible but I need more information before I can help. Post what info you can and I'll try and come up with something.

fOR EXAMPLE: If I have the following paragraph.

It is our understanding that you are making application for a Loan in the amount of $200,000 to be collateralized by a second mortgage on 555 Boat Street, Carmen, NY. You have represented to us that you own a six unit condominium building located at 555 Boat Street, Carmen, NY, which has an existing first mortgage of $1,990,000. You have also represented that the each condominium unit will have a market value of $595,000, totaling $3,570,000 after the construction is completed. Finally, you have represented that the existing first mortgage and real estate taxes on the above referenced property are current and allow secondary financing. Capital One is pleased to have the opportunity to provide financing on this transaction. The terms of the proposed loan will generally be as follows:

HOW CAN I CREATE A PLACE WHERE I CAN ASK THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS
HOW MUCH IS THE LOAN? $200,000
wHAT IS THE ADDRESS? 555 Boat Street, Carmen, NY
WHAT TYPE OF PROPERTY IS IT? six unit condominium building
HOW CAN I GET IT THAT THE ANSWERS TO MY QUESTIONS WILL BE PLUGED INTO THE WORD DOC IN THE CORRECT PLACES>

You can create custom properties (File | Properties | Custom): LoanAmt, Address, Description ... then do Insert | Field ..., and place the new fields in the appropriate locations in the document. They will change when you change the property values. Or you could do a mail merge from a spreadheet, which I do infrequently enough that I always need to use Help to wade my way through ...

Doing a mail merge how would I get the specific information in excel to be put into the correct places in the word doc

  • Re: Word template

Zeff, as I said, every time I do a mail merge, I need to re-educate myself using Help. I only saw your post because I forgot to enter the Excel/VBA forum first before clicking "New Posts." I'm sure there are mail-merge wizzes here that can help. Suggest you search this forum for "mail merge," and then start a new thread if you don't find what you need.

    Good luck and regards,
