Ladies and gentlemen; good morning.
Is it possible to select a number of cells that are say yellow when blank but once someone type "N" or "No", they change to blue and if "Y" or "Yes" they change to green.
I tried conditional formatting but it does not change the blank range to yellow until I have entered something into it.
Does anyone know how to code this VBA?

Conditional formatting will work fine for this. What are you entering in the conditional formating options?

Use Conditional Formatting after changing the cells to their default yellow background.

you may also use Conditional Formatting for the first condition by using the formula
=ISBLANK($D$9)=TRUE

pangolin, you can omit the =TRUE and simply use: =ISBLANK($D$9)
However, the $D$9 should be a relative reference so it copies correctly.

A way I did it is by using conditional formating , lets say cell A1 is blank
Select whichever is the area you want to conditional format and you select to put a yellow cell color whenever equal to A1 since it is a blank cell
and then conditional format so when cell is equal to ="Yes" Whichever color you want and so on
