Sorry, this is off topic and feel free to delete, but to Dave/other mods - would you consider allowing .rar attachments? When I went to upload my file the rar version was 2 or 3 kb smaller than the zip ended up being, with the same compression. Not sure if that was a one time thing tho.

Re: Winrar of Winzip Attachment Addition

Re: Winrar of Winzip Attachment Addition
right click on a file and select Send To > Compressed (Zipped) Folder
Don't know Winrar, But it would be interesting to see how the resulting filesize compares to WinRar

Re: Winrar of Winzip Attachment Addition
OUCH, I did just a quick check with some files and it seems winrar can compress much better, down to about 66% of the size ms's zip utility does

Re: Winrar of Winzip Attachment Addition
MS Zip built in is complex but less structured so is simple compression it is very good and work on most WorkStations, with Winrar You require the application which means money. With todays HardDrives 750GB is £228

So heavy compression is not so important today, good house keeping is vital as ever thou

Re: Winrar of Winzip Attachment Addition
True, true, the compatibility is an added bonus. Winrar is free though.. at least, it used to be? My copy is anyway, and I got it off their site a while back
But yeah, space isnt as important as it was even 3 years ago, I just brought this up since Dave has a 45 kb limit on attachments

I have WinRAR on one of my machines, and it takes over all the Zip functions like the one above. So I keep it off the machine I use for Zipping stuff to the forum.
