I am trying to count the number of unique text entries in a column of data. I know I can use a pivot table and then the sum function, but I want to be able to have it count automatically as we add data to the list. I'd appreciate any help I could get

When you entered the word count in your post the new auto links provided some useful information. Hover over the word count and you will see "count each item only once" . You can click on that link and see an explaination of DCOUNT. That may be what you are looking for.

Brian, Given the values A,A,B,C,D,D, what count do you want, 2 or 4?
