Macro That Will Export To Database In Access

  • Re: Macro That Will Export To Database In Access

Well how long's a piece of string ?

There are so many ways you could do this I couldn't possibly list them all unless you're prepared to spend a little more time on your question so that we know exactly wjat you want to do.... :)

Sorry terrible cold today, was hoping you can all read my mind without me having to type. I have a button i click which exports the active file to a saved file in my chosen directory. What I would like to do is to add on a code that would not only export to my saved directory, but also create a backup in an Access data base.

Is the access database on the network ? I'm just wondering why you want a copy in an access database ?

  • Re: Macro That Will Export To Database In Access

Was intending to backup the content. The point to keeping a copy in a database is not only to act as a backup if things go heywire. But also to have a database of figures I can play around with later and create yearly statistics based on the data in the data base which I will create over time. But that was going to be in anotehr question later on i.e how to pull information out of the database and use it in excel. So thats what I intend to do. Any ideas?

Well if that's what you intend to do, why keep the data in Excel at all ? Use Excel as the front-end to data stored in the database .... full stop. And design it like that from the start.

You probably need to start reading around the subject of sending & retrieving data between Excel & Access using ADO (more recent technology) and DAO (older but still valid for some jobs)

There are plenty of resources on the internet that will walk you through good example of how to do this... there are quite a few here, mostly written by the likes of Dennis & Myself in the SQL and Advanced XL Integration forums.

This project sounds to me like it requires more than a simple Q&A forum question, so my advice is to either buy a book on the subject or make extensive use of Google to research the issues and come here for the bits that cause you problams or you are having difficulty solving.

Sorry, but this is a specific free Q&A forum, not a free project consultancy... ;) for that you have to pay $$
