can you not just wait till noone is in it, make it unshared, protect the cells required then re-share it?

Look your cells as normal then try this:

Private Sub Worksheet_SelectionChange(ByVal Target As Range)
    If Target.Locked Then
        MsgBox "This Cell Is Locked!", vbInformation, "Worksheet Protection"
        Range("A1").Select
    End If
End Sub

Note will only work when macros are enabled.

Just to clarify, the term "Range("A1")" refers to cell A1, am i right?

If i wish to lock cells a1-j8 what range should be indicate?
