# Scoresheet That Automatically Ranks / Sorts

• THANKS TO ALL WHO WERE KIND ENOUGH TO PROVIDE ANSWERS... MY ISSUES WITH THIS SPREADSHEET ARE RESOLVED :>)

I sincerely hope I titled this post correctly! I probably spent more time trying to ensure I did this right than actually writing the post

I have a drill meet scoresheet that will be a 'master' sheet for recording all of the results of each schools' performance in several events. Each event has 3 scores/school and their total for that event. In the last column we want to have the RANKING (automatically) of each school based on that total for that event (ex: 7 schools... so it would rank them 1 thru 7 -- but not change the physical order on the sheet.)
THEN, after all events, we need to see the ranking of each school based on ALL TOTALS OF ALL EVENTS. We would like the rankings to update automatically as we enter the data from each event.

If this isn't clear, I have the file and would be glad to provide it to anyone if you want it (or tell me what you need and I'll do it if I can.

I would really appreciate help with this as I know it's something I should be able to do, but just can't quite "get it".

I imagine that you would be able to do it with a RANK formula as shown in the attached.

Averil (and Dave)
Thanks SO much... that worked perfectly.. the example was just what I needed :>

Thanks SO much for the replies! The example was just perfect since it solved that particular need.

Could I possibly bother you for one more thing?: On that same sheet, once I've gotten everyone ranked, I need to assign points for their place (i.e. rank 1 = 7 points, rank 2 = 6 pts, and so on). I'll be looking for this (probably super-simple) answer on my own, but thought I'd ask while I was here!

Thank you again!!

In my example I would enter this formula in D2 then copy down:

=CHOOSE(C2,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1)
