# Formulas : Creating a fixture list on Excel

• Has anybody got any ideas on how to create a fixture list for twelve soccer teams playing each other twice in a season on Excel 2000?

• Hi
Using the drawing toolbar create a circle of sufficient size in your worksheet
Then put one team at the centre of the circle and evenly space out the remaining teams around the circumference For the first week draw lines from the centre to a team and then draw five lines at right angles to that one connecting the two teams either side of the first line then the next two and so on
For the second week move around the circle by 1/11th and repeat and so on for the remaining weeks For the second half of the season swap the home and away teams
HOPE THIS HELPS

• I have to have a formula. Its for a project and I need to prove it in a formula.

• Big Bob already gave the algorithm. The key is to rotte all of the teams but 1. The following shows the left half of a worksheet that has the schedule for the first 11 games. Once the formulas are in place for the second gam,e they are just copied for the remaining, (with adjustment to show a second row as I did here). I'm not sure what you mean by a "prove it in a formula." Are you talking about a mathematical proof or just a demonstration that it works?

Bigbob,
I've been looking for a solution like yours for some stuff I'm doing putting together fixtures for various numbers of teams.

I've tried to replicate your solution but suspect I'm misinterpreting your instructions because I just can't make it work.

Does the same principle work for any number of teams? Or is it necessary to "pad" our uneven numbers with a number representing a bye?
