[Blocked Image: http://www.xl-logic.com/pics/hobby/hunting_03.JPG]Perhaps we should move these last couple posts to a more appropriate place...

Post moved, thanks for the pics. Hope you don't mind the new thread title
Do you eat all you kill?

Re: Aaron Kills Bambi
Yeah, we had some chili last night...
And technically, Bambi was a young buck, not a doe.
I killed Bambi's mother. [Blocked Image: http://www.xl-logic.com/emoticon/rambo.gif]

"her" it's a doe.
I wouldn't shoot an animal purely for the sake of killing it. Unless it was a creature of nuisance.
But at the same time, I could easily survive on food from the grocery store. I don't have to hunt to survive.
Most stores don't sell venison though. Not a very good picture of the animal; I have to admit.

LOL! I was referring to Rudolph.
Hunting, so long as the kill is eaten, is far different to having a slaughter house do the killing on our behalf. In fact, it's more humane to kill an animal in its own natural habitat by surprise. By the time farm animals get to the slaughter house they have had a few days of living Hell, only to have the last hours get even worse.
Even Whale hunting for food is fine by me, so long as the whaling is sustainable and the killing matches the demand. I'm not an advocate of survival of the cutest.

Re: Aaron Kills Bambi
Nice Doe looks like a shot through the shoulder VN
from how far and what state?
Got me a three point  but it will make about 45lbs of sausage and jerky

Re: Aaron Kills Bambi
I was hunting in central Georgia just a tad northwest of Fort Valley off 96.
I have a better pic of the right shoulder entry...
[Blocked Image: http://www.xl-logic.com/pics/hobby/hunting_05.JPG]In hindsight I would've liked to have aimed low on the ribcage just behind the shoulder (maybe 6 inches back from where you see above). Although this shot dropped the doe right where it stood, the bullet entered cleanly through the right shoulder, mushroomed and blew apart the left shoulder (and pretty much everything in between). I ended up having to discard the whole left shoulder.
It was only like a 40yd shot from a treestand... might as well of been walking by with a big target painted on her side. I was using 30-06 Rem CoreLokt softpoints in 150gr. I think she was dead before she hit the ground. I came away with about 25lbs of hamburger and sausage, along with some nice backstrap steaks. Grilled some of those steaks up just the other night as a matter of fact.
Where did you get your 3-point?

Re: Aaron Kills Bambi
mmm backstraps...I can't wait for the 15th; I've only got 1 package of burger left from my buntin buck last year. I love saving some straps for morel season, springtime here in Michigan. I'm getting so freakin hungry!!!
