Re: $40 Search text in pdf's
I just visited that link and that was exactly what I was looking for, well done

Re: $40 Search text in pdf's
I will be checking out that link you provided to look up the references. There has to be like 200+ libraries in total and I don't know what a majority of them even do. I did not run the Excel tinker either and want to look at more direct solution, especially ones where I can see the code directly. My content is generated a few different ways, which brought up the question to me if these pdf's with embedded text where standardized in some way. I think they are somewhat but not perfectly. Thx for looking in to that. I think that probably closes this question then, it does not look like the project would be reasonably possible.

Re: $40 Search text in pdf's
I found this link on the internet to "scan" type libraries but I wonder if there is an easier way, or some vba code already written.
http://www.excel-ticker.com/vba-objekte-in…und-excel-2003/I also saw something called iText but that subject looks like it would require quiet a bit of study

Re: $40 Search text in pdf's
Hi Ger Plante - I don't have adobe acrobat prof. installed, I try to avoid installing anything adobe related. I am currently using PDF Studio 9 Pro. Do you think they provide an API for developers to consume? BY API for developers, does that mean the same thing as providing a type library for VBA to access at the VBA editior - Tools - References ?
Sort of a related question - Is it possible for me to access or list on a worksheet the references that are listed in Tools - References? That would make it much easier for me to search the available libraries and explore what it is that the libraries offer. If I click Browse at the references library, the system32 folder opens up, but I do not think that this list of files in the system 32 files is identical to the list of files shown in the References window.

Awesome it worked

Re: Linked Lists
The image did not attach. Trying out MediaGoblin, a Free Software decentralized alternative to Youtube, Flicker, Souncloud etc. This would be my first time uploading a photo at this site and putting a link here.

Re: Extract text, it seems like it should be easy
I think that covers it. At the next application I have for Regex I will post a new thread. I wish I had known about Regex years ago, better late then never.

Re: $40 Search text in pdf's
I took it the wrong way, it was my mistake, please don't read anything into it. As for the language we speak, english is fine, also your english is excellent. When I have a project, often I do not know beforehand how difficult the project might be, or if what I am offering initially is fair or not. I wanted to get an idea first from a developer if the job was possible and if the compesation was adequate. If the developer wanted more money, I may or may not agree to it. It is not until I talk with the developer that I know for sure what the compensation will be and how much to pay Ozgrid. I think doing it like cytop said is fine, just offer an amount at the beginning and pay 10% of that amount upfront to Ozgrid. Changes can always be made later.

Re: $40 Search text in pdf's
Sorry, my mistake. I do keep forgetting the web is global and english is often not the first language. My apologies Wigi

Re: Extract text, it seems like it should be easy
Well the constants would be the spaces at the front at at the end. For example
asfdsaffsaf [email protected] asfsadfafsafasf
I would have to start reading and learning Regex to be able to understand your's and jindon's code.

Re: $40 Search text in pdf's
Ok it has been paid.

Re: $40 search text in pdf's, possible?
"Thank you for the new assignment." Is that sarcasm? It sounds like it. By paying the $4, I essentially fix the compensation to the developer up front, and that might actually be a bad thing. I do not know how much effort will be required to complete my proposed project and that is why I said I would hold off on the Ozgrid 10%.
Per your sarcastic remark, I will pay $4 and thus essentially fix the compensation amount to the developer.

I have a folder with hundreds of pdf's that have already been ocr'd. I am not sure if creating this type of sub is easily possible, here is what would be nice
On a worksheet there is a list of keywords the user typed in. The subroutine would have the user select the range that contains the keywords. Then the user is presented with a dialog box where they can select a folder. The sub then parses the searchable text that is inside each pdf of that folder and keeps track of each pdf that contains one of the keywords. The user is presented with another dialog box asking if they want to copy or move the selected pdf's, if so the user selects the folder where they want the pdf's to be moved or copied.
I assume that creating some type of index to speed up the keyword search would greatly complicate this project, please let me know if that would be possible though. I think just opening and parsing the text of each pdf one at a time will suffice. I am going to hold off on the 10% payment to Ozgrid for now because I don't know if VBA can parse text from searchable PDF's or not. Thanks

Re: Extract text, it seems like it should be easy
SO - Thx for the light reading ha. Pike, the previous solution to ignoring case seems more intuitive to me. I wonder how effective this sub would be at extracting emails from a bunch of text. ChrL=" ", ChrM="@" and ChrR=" "
