Re: Conditional Duplicate Formatting for specific cells
There must be an easier way. Surely it's just a case of ignoring the locations and checking over a list of names and if there are duplicate names in the am across each row then it flags up.

Re: Conditional Duplicate Formatting for specific cells
I'm guessing it's extremely difficult then
Re: Conditional Duplicate Formatting for specific cells
Turns out this doesn't work on the piece I'm actually working on and I've been trying to avoid asking again but I've tried loads to sort it.
Sometimes there are two people on the same shift but this would need to flag up as well just like before. I made a lost of names and defined them as "Names" as I thought it would be easier to lookup them names and flag up if there are duplicates of them in specific cells
Re: Conditional Duplicate Formatting for specific cells
Thank you so much. I don't understand how it works but it does!
Re: Conditional Duplicate Formatting for specific cells
I've attached the file
Re: Conditional Duplicate Formatting for specific cells
I don't understand how this will work sorry. Maybe I should attach an example

Bump
Re: Making value disappear from drop down when used
Quote from AlanSidman;759407Here is an older file that was originally designed as a seating plan, but if you look at it carefully, it uses the process you are looking for.
Thank you for this, it was really kind of you
I don't think this will work though as I need a piece of text to stay in the cell permanently such as the cell might have the word Classroom in it but then I need to allocate a member to that cell with the drop down menu. But that would probably overwrite the text wouldn't it?
I have a timetable see below table as example.
Monday
AM
PM
Kitchen
Gym
Classroom
Toilet

Second Timetable
Monday
AM
PM
Kitchen
Alex
Gym
James
Classroom
Alex
Toilet
James
In excel I added a conditional formatting so it flagged up when there we duplicate entires. Alex can't work in the kitchen and the classroom at the same time as they are both in the morning but with the conditional formatting in place it flags up even when there isn't anyone assigned to it. As it will pick up if Kitchen is assigned more than once.
I have created a list of names and defined them as "Name" but I don't know where I go from there.
Can someone please help me?
To make it as clear as possible.
I want the cell to highlight red if the same person is working in two places on the same day but I don't want the cell going red if there are multiple names of places.
Hopefully someone can help me on this.
I have a list of names e.g. James, Alex, Peter in a drop down box.
These staff are then allocated to tasks but once they have been allocated to a task I would like them to disappear from the drop down. Is this possible?
It seems this probably won't work anymore as I need to place other text in the same cell
