Hi all,
I require a list sorted in date order which returns individual values when the date is duplicated.
The formula being used is INDEX($A$1:$A$4,MATCH(SMALL($A$1:$A$4,ROW()),$A$1:$A$4,0),1) but does not achieve the result.
Please see attached.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Order list of dates and adjacent values using formula
Justin,
I have re-attached the list again to clearly show what I mean.
I require formulas for G2:H43

Re: Order list of dates and adjacent values using formula
Justin:
Thank you so much, it worked for me.AAE:
My sincere apologies, I just find it really difficult to find an appropriate title sometimes.
Your method works too, thank you.I have attached another example this time with 2 lists.
Could you include the new formula to combine the 2 lists into 1 list in date order.
Thanks in advance -
Hi all,
I require a formula to put a list in date order (without using sort in menu).
Have attached an example.
Thanks in advance -
Re: Create Date Order List formula
Thank you AAE.
That does work however is there a way to do this without creating another table.
In other words use only the original table and produce the results from that. -
Hi all,
I need formulas to create a date order list from a complex table.
Please see attached example which better explains what I'm after.
Thanks in advance -

Re: Extract data from phrase
Thank you Clarity & Batman.
It worked
I have one more question.
Again, using the same phrase, what would the formula be to extract the word/s after Colour:

Hi all,
I have the following phrase all in cell A1.
Animal: Dog, Type: Jack Russell, Colour: White
I'm looking for a formula to extract the word/s after Type:
In this case, the result would be Jack Russell
Also, the type could vary from one word to two or more words.
Kind Regards

Re: Lookup & Return Nth Occurrence
Thank you for the reply but it is off the mark.
Ideally I was looking for an index &/or match formula to do this.
Please see the spreadsheet to see what I mean.
Kind Regards

Hi all,
I have an excel spreadsheet where I am trying to return the 1st occurrence, 2nd occurrence and 3rd occurrence using a formula only.In my example I want to return the 1st, 2nd and 3rd occurrence for the word fish, displaying only the date & amount columns.
Please see the attachment which shows what I am trying to do.
Thanks in advance.
Kind Regards

Re: Format Formula
Thank you Dave.
Qs1 Solved...That formula worked.
But in regards to Qs2...I can't just select the sections, as I was only using the table of contents as an example. Rather there is 6 different pages that I want to retain their links. Hence I would have to spend ages highlighting each section...very painful and time-consuming for the end-user. There must be a way to just lock a section from any updating/breaking links whatsoever in word. Hoping someone knows of a solution?

2 questions:
1) When writing a text statement in excel I need to have the figure show with a comma to separate the thousands when linked to a cell? See spreadsheet attached.
2) I'm doing a mail merge from excel ->word which outputs in a report. The problem is i need to ctrl+A (Select all) and ctrl+shift+f9 (break links) in word however I want to prevent the table of contents page from breaking its links. Is there a way to have this page excluded from breaking links?
Thanks in advance.

Hi all,
I would like to have excel automatically fill an excel cell with a predefined list.
For example, if you put the letter l it will automatically include the word large
This is like you do when you fill out a form online.
See attachment
Thanks in advance -
Re: Conditional Formula To Calculate Total
Thank you so much shootkey.
Words can't express how grateful I am.
Now another challenge for you.
I've made a few changes and attached the new spreadsheet but this time, I need to calculate a total based on if an instance of a word occurs (for example, if it is pants+shirt include it in the total of pants).
Thanks once again. -
Re: Conditional Formula To Calculate Total
Thanks but no thanks Dave,
Not after a pivot table, rather a simple formula.
Thought maybe indexing would work but was hoping someone on the forum knows a really quick and easy way using a formula.
